Welcome to Cruisin’ Berquam Style. We’re dedicated to giving you the very best in Family Style Cruising, with a focus on Family, Fun, and Freedom.
Cruising does not always mean on a ship, instead it is a way of going through life. Sometimes our travels have been in a car, train, bus, RV, boat, and yes even ships. Other times our cruising just means having family and friends over to sit around a campfire and talk. This is just cruising through life – Berquam Style. Although, my favorite style of cruising is still on a ship and my dream cruise would be Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise (275 days).
In our context, Family is our extended family not just blood relations but also friends and acquaintances that we have met along the way. Everyone we spend time with is part of our global family.
Fun is found in everything that you do. These experiences are what makes life worth enjoying. From getting up at 4 am to milk the cows, spending a September Saturday cutting wood and Sunday splitting it, and water skiing on the lake for hours at a time (usually the boat was out of gas before we were).
Freedom relates to experiences and having the time and money to make them happen. Not all experiences take a lot of time or money. As a kid, we remember going to the farm after supper, so that we could help put the hay up. We thought it was so much fun to be up in the hay loft taking the bales of hay off the elevator and moving (dragging is more accurate, as they weighed as much as we did) them from one end of the loft to the other. This experience cost nothing and we had the freedom to enjoy it.
When we started, our passion for Family drove us to start an informational and historical website. Now we serve family all over the world, and are thrilled to share our passion with you.
Growing up we had opportunities that we may not have always understood at the time. There were trips all over the country, weekends at the family lake house, working on one of the family farms, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and spending weeks at a beach house on the ocean. By the time I had joined the military I had already visited or lived in 19 states and 2 countries. I missed out on some opportunities to live in other countries with the family when I started college but since then I have always tried to make up for lost adventures. To date I have now been to 16 countries, 43 states, 3 US territories, and 2 Canadian provinces.
Lou has also had many travels in her life also and continues to explore this wonderful life with me. Growing up, she traveled a lot with her family, joined the military, and traveled more. Some day we will have her count up where she has been too.
We hope you enjoy our site and maybe even encourage you to cruise with us. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us.
This website is still a work in progress and please forgive any mistakes. We are continuing to bring in more past content and share it all with you.
